STRESS
Stress is unavoidable but some stress (positive stress) is good for us because it can increase motivation and performance. It can be exciting, stimulating and creative. Long term negative stress though is likely to be harmful.
Some common symptoms of stress are: Breathing too quickly Raised blood pressure Tense muscles Headaches Sleeping problems Anxiety and panic attacks Irritability loss of confidence/motivation Confused mind affecting memory and concentration.
Stress can be managed by learning how to relax both the body and mind and by changing reactions to stressful situations. We can learn how to regain control over our lives and this increase our level of confidence and motivation.
POSITIVE PERSPECTIVES STRESS MANAGEMENT SESSIONS
I am available to present Stress Management courses to small groups in the workplace.
Taster sessions consist of a presentation, a questionnaire to identify stress factors and a relaxation session.
The Positive Perspectives course can be tailored to the needs of the company/workplace. The course consists of worksheets, questionnaires and practical exercises teaching relaxation and stress reduction techniques.
In particular the course examines: The definition of stress. The Fight/flight response and effects of stress. How to cope with anxiety and panic attacks. The role of diet and exercise in stress management. How to challenge negative thoughts. The benefits of relaxation. Helpful lifestyle changes.
The aim of the course is to give participants the opportunity to identify their stress factors, to challenge negative thinking and to learn simple effective relaxation techniques to relieve anxiety and reduce the effects of negative stress.
